Instructions: 1. View the Video - About the rudiments - low / high 2. View the Video - Rudiment #1, The Long Roll - low / high 3. Practice the long roll, making sure to start slowly, gradually increasing speed until the roll is closed. Make sure that you play evenly, with good balance. Be especially careful to play smoothly at the point where the roll becomes too fast to play individual strokes and begins to play bounce strokes. Also, make sure to open the roll up as slowly as you closed it.
Practice: Practice the long roll in open to closed fashion , then play it closed (fast tempo) , from soft to loud , then back to soft again. Keep your hands as relaxed as possible and play smoothly. Watch the videos a few times until you know how to make the long roll flow.
Tips/Comments: Keep in control at all times .
Follow-up: Go to the Rudiment #2
