Instructions: 1. Review the video. 2. This is the Melodic Minor scale over 2 octaves - starting with the E note - 1st Finger - 7th Fret - 5th string. 3. To form a melodic minor scale, take the natural minor, raise the sixth AND seventh note on the way up, and put them back to their "natural" state going down. Because the melodic minor looks different going up than it does going down, you must write a melodic minor ascending and descending. 4. Follow the video instruction and refer to the chart below for the fingering. the 'root' or 'tonic' is in red. 5. Always keep the left hand in the correct position - thumb in the middle of the back of the neck. Concentrate on sounding out all the notes evenly.
Practice: Start slowly and gradually increase your speed. Practice scales often and USE THE METRONOME. Go slow, scales are often easier to play faster, but learn them at a slow tempo before going at full speed.
Tips/Comments: Playing scales may seem boring but even advanced players need to practice scales. It helps as a theory exercise and improves right and left hand technique.
Follow-up: Search and view all the lessons on scales for classical guitar.
